Outline: A sausage (reach) course that gets harder and more fun with each lap. You can try this with a triangle for experienced sailors who want a bit of craic.
The 7 levels of Danger Sailing:
Level 2: Standing up facing forward.
What happened to Level 1? -This is Danger Sailing. We always start a level above what we're supposed to.
Level 3: Standing up facing backwards.
Level 4 : Standing up facing backwards with your legs on the gunnels (the rim or sides of the boat) in a splits kinda way.
Level 5: Genie. No hands alowed. Fold arms and stear/use main sheet with legs.
Level 6: Standing up on the gunnels, on the very edge ofthe sides on the opposite side to the sail. (windward)
Level 7: Standing up on the gunnels, on the very edge ofthe sides on the same side to the sail. (leeward) This is pretty much impossible but that's why it's fun. Lots of capsizing.
The Rules of Danger Sailing:
No one can know what the next level is until they have completed their current level. (This is important as they'll just skip on to it) They can be told that level the record for level 7 is 13 seconds without capsizing.
A lap of the course must be completed before moving onto the next level.
In the event that level 7 can't be completed due to those annoying laws of physics, a competition is set up to see who can perform Level 7 for the longest. In this case their boat must be moving for the clock to start and the clock stops when they stop/capsize. |
